Most awaited and most talked about movie Toilet Ek Prem Katha has hit the theaters today with a lot of expectations. So, we are here with our scrutinized Toilet Ek Prem Katha movie review for you.
Director Shree Narayan Singh has held up a mirror to society, by portraying how our country is being seen in the eyes of people of the world. And how negative has been the image of our country due to some superstitious villagers, sluggish administration and dishonest politicians who have actually converted India into the world’s largest shit-pond?
For all the Indian people who take the toilets in our homes for granted, this fiery issue of more than 50% Indians practicing open defecation could be a stupid concept. But, Women empowerment is a really a hot topic especially women being treated more insensitively than cattle in India. Hence for a good learning, this movie is an open book.
CAST: Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar, Divyendu, Sudhir Pandey, Anupam Kher
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha Movie Review
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, the title of the film completely depicts its plot and story. Somehow the trailer also clearly gives an idea what the movie would be all about.
Yes, it’s definitely a love story of a newly wedded couple that is bounded with a subject of handling the most common problem in India that is defecation in open. However, it’s an absorbing subject but can be explored in many ways which the director has succeeded in doing.
The story is about the lead character Keshav (Akshay Kumar), a 12th fail 36-year-old bachelor who has been cogently trapped into the traditional rituals forced by his father. His father, Pandit Ji (Sudhir Pandey) is a typically out-dated person who believes in rudimentary beliefs of old times. Then, an important character enters into their life, which is quirky, vivacious, and holds a careless attitude towards the world, Jaya (Bhumi Pednekar). We all know that opposite always attracts and these two poles-apart personalities are the true example of it.
After getting married happily, the main issue starts when Jaya got to know about the open defecation in the village. The story of the movie revolves around her outburst when she gets to know about no sanitization facility in the village, Keshav’s endeavors to dare the years-old tradition and Pandit Ji’s unjustified diligence of prohibiting the construction of a toilet at his home.
There is much more in the movie that makes the story interesting and captivating. Super acting of the actors, heart touching moments and music in the film make it watchable.
Akshay Kumar’s comic timing is slam-dunk flawless and Bhumi Pednekar is truly a gifted actress. There is both humor and expressiveness in their interactions.
The song ‘Has mat pagli pyaar ho jayega’ and ‘Subha ki train’ arrest the pain and warmth that such a couple in that creepy situation might feel.
Toilet Ek Prem Katha Movie Review: Screenplay Analysis
The movie is packed with learning and happy-realization moments and heart touching dialogues. It is quite simple to say that when you are up to display any serious issue which many are aware of but not ready to accept then you need something to attract them. The sweet romance and love story of both in the film is one of those solid reasons.
The first half of the film too many hilarious moments and second half depend majorly on drama. However, a slow pace is felt across the whole time period. It took a lot of time to build up but later on, it just nailed down.
Director of the movie has made sure to instill some fun moments in between just to grab the attention of the audience.
If you are willing to spend your weekend in an inspirational mood then this movie has the perfect dose to fulfill you. This movie is an honest attempt to handle something that already exists in our society but not many are aware of it.
This film will make you laugh, feel and most importantly think. Watch this for Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar’s true-to-the-soul performances and a movie that is a satirical take on our society and its sham ideologies.
